Story SynopsisMarvel Entertainment have released the story synopsis for the upcoming 'Guardians Of The Galaxy', which is due for release on August 7, 2014. The synopsis describes the film as an "action-packed, epic space adventure" that "expands the Marvel cinematic universe into the cosmos". It goes on to describe the basic story premise, with "brash adventurer" Peter Quill being pursued by intergalactic bounty hunters after he has stolen a mysterious orb that is wanted by Ronan, the story's villain.
As with the comic on which it is based, Quill is forced to team up with four outsiders - Rocket Raccon Groot, Gamora & Drax - to fight his pursuers and stay alive. According to the synopsis, "when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy's fate in the balance." In addition to the synopsis, additional background material has been released including behind-the-scenes credits. James Gunn has been credited as Director, but the final writing credit has not been determined. At this time, Gunn and Nicole Perlman have received story credit an Gunn has received tentative screenplay credit. Marvel Entertainment boss Kevin Feige is the film's Producer. |
Production Information‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ was first discussed in 2010 by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige as the San Diego Comic-Con. He subsequently exclaimed how much fun it would be to do a big space epic and, in 2012, it was confirmed that the film would go into production based on a script by Nicole Perlman, which was rewritten by Gunn when he brought on board the project. Gunn is a risky choice, as he hasn’t helmed a big budget production, but he has an impressive hyphenate resume with many writing/directing credits. His screenplays have been cited for their witty tongue-in-cheek dialogue and he learned his film-making skills working for B-Grade film-maker Troma.
A small piece of footage was shown at the 2013 Comic-Con showing Rocket Racoon atop Groot’s shoulders firing a gun of some sort. This was enough to create a massive amount of expectation for the film, although it has been suggested that the segment was created especially for Comic-Con and may not be part of the actual film. Either way, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is going to be a departure for Marvel, as it brings a new cast of heroes to broaden the Marvel film universe’s scope and provide another piece of the Phase Two puzzle in the lead-up to 2015’s ‘Age Of Ultron’ Avenger’s sequel. |
